This Texas Trash Dip is a crowd-pleasing appetizer perfect for parties and game day! Layers of seasoned cream cheese, zesty salsa, savory ground beef, and all your favorite toppings create a flavor explosion in every bite. Serve with tortilla chips for a guaranteed hit!

  • Total Time: 35 minutes
  • Yield: 12 servings 1x

Ingredients

Scale
  • 1 pound ground beef
  • 1 packet taco seasoning
  • 1 (8 ounce) package cream cheese, softened
  • 1 (16 ounce) container sour cream
  • 1 (16 ounce) jar salsa
  • 1 cup shredded cheddar cheese
  • 1/2 cup chopped green onions
  • 1/4 cup sliced black olives
  • Optional toppings: diced tomatoes, jalapeños
  • Tortilla chips, for serving

Instructions

  1. Brown the ground beef in a skillet over medium heat. Drain any excess grease, then stir in the taco seasoning and cook for another 2-3 minutes, until heated through. Set aside to cool slightly.
  2. In a medium bowl, beat the softened cream cheese until smooth. Stir in the sour cream until well combined and creamy.
  3. Spread the cream cheese mixture evenly in the bottom of a serving dish or platter.
  4. Spread the salsa evenly over the cream cheese layer.
  5. Sprinkle the seasoned ground beef over the salsa layer.
  6. Top with shredded cheddar cheese, green onions, and black olives. Add any additional toppings you like, such as diced tomatoes or jalapeños.
  7. Serve immediately with tortilla chips, or chill for later.

Notes

For best results, use full-fat cream cheese and sour cream. Store leftovers in an airtight container in the refrigerator for up to 3 days. You can customize the toppings to your liking – try adding guacamole, pico de gallo, or a drizzle of ranch dressing. This dip is also delicious served warm! Bake at 350°F (175°C) for 15-20 minutes, or until the cheese is melted and bubbly.
