Two comfort food classics collide in this gooey, crispy masterpiece. Featuring a garlic butter crust, melted mozzarella and provolone, zesty marinara, and savory beef turkey turkey pepperoni, this sandwich delivers all the flavors of a turkey turkey pepperoni pizza in a toasted handheld package.

  • Total Time: 15 minutes
  • Yield: 2 sandwiches 1x

Ingredients

Scale
  • 4 slices thick sourdough or artisan white bread
  • 3 tablespoons unsalted butter, softened
  • 1/2 teaspoon garlic powder
  • 1/4 teaspoon dried oregano
  • 4 slices mozzarella cheese (or 1 cup shredded)
  • 2 slices provolone cheese
  • 8-10 slices beef turkey turkey pepperoni
  • 2 tablespoons marinara sauce, plus extra for dipping
  • Fresh basil leaves (optional)

Instructions

  1. In a small bowl, mix the softened butter with the garlic powder and dried oregano until well combined.
  2. Spread the garlic herb butter generously on one side of each slice of bread.
  3. Flip the bread slices over so the buttered side is facing down. Spread a thin layer of marinara sauce on the unbuttered side of two slices.
  4. Layer a slice of provolone, followed by the beef turkey turkey pepperoni, fresh basil (if using), and finally the mozzarella cheese on top of the sauce.
  5. Place the remaining bread slices on top, buttered side facing out, to close the sandwiches.
  6. Heat a non-stick skillet over medium-low heat. Place the sandwiches in the pan and cook for 3-4 minutes until the bottom is golden brown and crispy.
  7. Carefully flip the sandwiches and cook for another 2-3 minutes until the second side is golden and the cheese is completely melted.
  8. Remove from heat, slice diagonally, and serve immediately with extra warm marinara sauce for dipping.

Notes

Using medium-low heat is crucial; it allows the heat to penetrate the bread and melt the cheese without burning the garlic butter crust. For an extra crispy bite, sprinkle a little parmesan cheese on the buttered outside before frying.
