Ingredients
- 1 cup baking soda
- 1/2 cup citric acid
- 1/4 cup cornstarch
- 2-3 tablespoons water
- 20-30 drops peppermint essential oil
- Optional: Dried peppermint leaves or blue food coloring
Instructions
- In a large bowl, combine the baking soda, citric acid, and cornstarch. Whisk together until well combined.
- Slowly add water, a tablespoon at a time, mixing well after each addition. Be careful not to add too much water at once, as this will cause the mixture to fizz prematurely. The mixture should have a slightly damp, sand-like consistency.
- Add the peppermint essential oil and any optional ingredients, such as dried peppermint leaves or blue food coloring, and mix thoroughly.
- Press the mixture firmly into silicone molds or use a spoon to create small mounds on a parchment-lined baking sheet.
- Let the shower steamers dry completely for at least 24 hours, or until they are hard to the touch.
- To use, place one steamer on the shower floor, away from the direct stream of water. As the steamer dissolves, it will release the peppermint essential oil into the air.
Notes
Store shower steamers in an airtight container in a cool, dry place. If your mixture starts to fizz when you add water, add the water more slowly or use a spray bottle to mist the mixture lightly. For a stronger scent, add more essential oil. Shower steamers are best used within 6 months.
