Ingredients
- 2 cups all-purpose flour
- 1 teaspoon salt
- 1 teaspoon active dry yeast
- 1 cup warm water
- 2 tablespoons olive oil, plus more for drizzling
- 2 cloves garlic, minced
- 1/4 cup grated Parmesan cheese
- 1 teaspoon dried oregano
- Pinch of red pepper flakes (optional)
Instructions
- In a large bowl, whisk together the flour, salt, and yeast.
- Add the warm water and 2 tablespoons of olive oil to the dry ingredients. Stir until a shaggy dough forms.
- Turn the dough out onto a lightly floured surface and knead for 5-7 minutes, or until smooth and elastic.
- Place the dough in a lightly oiled bowl, turning to coat. Cover with plastic wrap and let rise in a warm place for 30 minutes, or until doubled in size.
- Preheat oven to 400°F (200°C). Grease a baking sheet with olive oil.
- Punch down the dough and transfer it to the prepared baking sheet. Gently stretch and press the dough to fill the sheet.
- In a small bowl, combine the minced garlic, Parmesan cheese, oregano, and red pepper flakes (if using).
- Drizzle the dough with olive oil and sprinkle with the garlic Parmesan mixture. Use your fingertips to create dimples in the dough.
- Bake for 18-20 minutes, or until golden brown and cooked through.
- Let cool slightly before slicing and serving.
Notes
For a richer flavor, try using roasted garlic instead of fresh. You can also experiment with different herbs and cheeses to customize your focaccia. Store leftovers in an airtight container at room temperature for up to 2 days.
