Ingredients
- 1 cup extra virgin olive oil
- 4 cloves garlic, minced
- 2 tablespoons fresh basil, chopped
- 1 tablespoon fresh oregano, chopped
- 1 teaspoon dried rosemary, crushed
- 1/2 teaspoon dried thyme
- 1/4 teaspoon red pepper flakes (adjust to taste)
- 1/4 teaspoon salt
- 1/4 teaspoon black pepper
- Balsamic vinegar (optional, for serving)
- Crusty bread, for serving
Instructions
- In a small saucepan, combine the olive oil and minced garlic. Heat over low heat for about 3-5 minutes, or until the garlic is fragrant but not browned. Be careful not to burn the garlic.
- Remove the saucepan from the heat and stir in the fresh basil, fresh oregano, dried rosemary, dried thyme, red pepper flakes, salt, and black pepper. Mix well to combine all the ingredients.
- Let the oil cool slightly before serving. Pour the bread dipping oil into a shallow dish. Serve with crusty bread for dipping. Optionally, add a drizzle of balsamic vinegar to the dish for extra flavor.
Notes
Store leftover bread dipping oil in an airtight container in the refrigerator for up to 1 week. The flavors will meld together even more as it sits. You can adjust the amount of red pepper flakes to control the spice level. For a more intense garlic flavor, use roasted garlic instead of minced. Feel free to experiment with other herbs, such as parsley, marjoram, or sage.
